The funeral service for Giuseppe “Joe” Saladino, 64, of
Gouverneur, was held on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at Coventry Pietras
Funeral Home, in Coventry, Connecticut. Burial followed in St. Mary’s
Cemetery in Coventry. Local arrangements were with Green Funeral Home,
Gouverneur.
Mr. Saladino died Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at his home under the
care of his wife and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Mr. Saladino had
been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Born on February 21, 1947, in St. Margherita, Sicily, Italy, he was
a son of Luciano and Giuseppa (Giametta) Saladino. He attended schools
in Italy.
Joe was married to Shirley Gallagher on August 8, 1998.
Mr. Saladino worked for forty years for CelluTissue Corporation in East
Hartford, Connecticut, retiring at the age of 58. Upon his retirement,
Joe and his wife Shirley moved to Gouverneur, where Joe realized his
dream of owning and operating a farm. He enjoyed his time spent with
the cows and working the land with his Case tractors. Joe also enjoyed
building contraptions to solve problems and turning other people’s
junk into useful equipment.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Shirley; five daughters Jill, Tina,
Dawn, Crystal, and Becky; six grandchildren; three step-children Arthur,
Dean, and Dottielyn; six step-grandchildren; Two brothers, Charlie and
Frank, four sisters Josephine, Anna, Anette, and Rose; and several nieces
and nephews. He also leaves behind some special friends, Davie Spilman,
Jeff White, Linda Pulver, and the Williams family, all of Gouverneur;
a brother-in-law James Pagano and sister-in-law Jeanie Pagano, of Connecticut.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter; a brother Luciano; and a sister
Maria.
